Strange Happenings!
The following is reproduced in the teller’s own words who for this purpose would like his name changed.
"The first thing occurred one evening at about dusk. My wife was away and I left the home about 6pm to go to work. When I returned three hours later the downstairs bedroom light was on. I could not understand this as I had to walk past the window to leave the garden and when I had left the light was not on. Nobody else had a key to the house so it was basically unexplainable. I decided not to mention it to my wife as there was no natural explanation."
"My wife returned the next week and all at first seemed normal, I went off to work one morning leaving my wife in the house, when I returned at lunchtime she asked me where our hoover was. I replied that it must be in the cupboard as usual as I had not moved it since she returned. She was adamant that it was not there and when we went to look she mentioned that the door to the cupboard was wide open. I said it could not have been as it was shut when I left. When she opened the door the hoover was there just as I had left it a few days before, she was quite shocked by this and immediately accused me of playing tricks on her, which I had not. It now appeared that the hoover had disappeared and returned later that morning."
"After this I told her about the bedroom light incident which just added to our general puzzlement. It was when the television switched its self on a number of days later that I decided to investigate further."
"I asked our neighbours if the now deceased, previous (And only other occupant.) owner had died in the home or in hospital, they said it was the latter and of course wanted to know why. When I told them it became a good bit of neighbourhood gossip that ‘Stevensons’ home appeared to have a poltergeist. Shortly afterwards I was talking to our neighbour two doors away and as we discussed the possible haunting it transpired that at previous times when my wife and I had been away for the weekend, lights were going on and off in our house at random. He had assumed that we had some sort of security system, (Which we did not.) that did this. It was now apparent that we were not the only ones who had seen strange going’s on at the house."
"We moved out shortly afterwards and never found an explanation for the sudden burst of activity, (Things had quitened down after that.) In our time at the house we never felt threatened by what was going on and to this day we are still left wondering what caused all the happenings."
"My Great Aunt Lizzie, (An octagernian) lived in a remote croft house called Achadake in Tayrvilt, Argyll. In 1983 the house was wired for electricity for the first time-up until then she had used a combination of gas and open fire for heat and light. Unfortunately at this time Lizzie was going senile and would remark to other members of the family that she had seen trains in the living room and other weird and wonderful figments of her imagination. One common theme however, was a small girl-the girl wanted bed and breakfast and was crawling in electricity wires and most common of all she always appeared by or in lizzie’s bed. At the time we put it down to the fact that she was unfortunately just going senile."
"After a short while of this my aunt was hospitilized and subsequently died after about six months -her ramblings and hallucinations becoming progressively worse during her stay in hospital. The house lay empty for about one year and then my family decided to do some modernisation, and rent it out to holiday makers."
"About two years later the cottage was becoming quite well patronised and was busy with visitors during summer months. At this time a family from Falkirk arrived for a fortnights stay. At the end of their holiday, the man asked my family if the cottage was haunted, we answered that to our knowledge it was not."
He went on to tell us that during his stay the dog had become very agitated at night and would not settle-this occurred for a few nights. Initially he put it down to the fact that it was a strange house etc..
However after a number of nights the dog woke him again and as he stirred he saw a small girl standing beside his bed staring at him. He said she remained there for quite a time before fading away. "We were quite intriqued by this as it was the same bedroom that old Aunt Lizzie had used and a total stranger had just verified some of what we thought were Lizzie’s ramblings."
"The strange thing is that there have been no further incidents reported and although I have slept in the same room a number of times, I have neither seen or felt anything unusual."
