Castles, Tartans, Whisky, Mountains, Lochs, Monsters, Ghosts, Clans, Wars, Heros, Gaelic: How many things are there to describe the Highlands of Scotland? These are only a few of the things that make the Highlands & Islands of Scotland world famous.
Eilean Donan Castle, (pictured right), in the Western Highlands is the most photographed Castle in Scotland. On the shores of Loch Duich, Eilean Donan castle is one of hundreds of castles in the Highlands which has survived many battles and remains today as a popular visitors attraction. If you have seen the movie 'Highlander', then Eilean Donan will be familiar to you as the home of Macleod. In fact it is actually a Mackenzie home.If its walls could speak its history it would tell you about things like the day it was bombarded by a Royal Navy frigate during an abortive Spanish-Jacobite invasion in 1719, and survived.
