Dear Highlander,

WHAT A MAGAZINE!

I can't beleive that I missed this site. A friend told me about it and now I find other web sites pathetic in comparison. Never ever ever get rid of these pages. William Johnstone

Dear Highlander,

Thank you for providing the wonderful info concerning Sir William Wallace. I recently saw Braveheart on video, and only knowing about him from vague historical references, I am glad for your information. It has really put the record straight. Being a decendant of England imperialism myself here in Australia I feel just a touch of shame concerning their rapacity in the thousand years or so of their history...good work.

Peter

Dear Highlander,

I've just gone through your Webpage "William Wallace: The Truth," and all I can say is... WOW!!! Outstanding job! I want more! Please complete the story ASAP! Mark Monaghan has done an excellent job, and I will be ordering James Mackay's book. :)

Dear Highlander,

I am toally amazed at how much information can be obtained from one website! I consider myself a regular weekly reader of Highlander now.

Many many many thanks.

Dear Highlander,

I am now the proud owner of a William Wallace book, a Bloody Culloden book / t-shirt and I plan on buying more from you. It was so easy all I did was followed your instructions and the goods were on my door a lot quicker than I thought they would be. I have ordered on line products in the past and both other times the goods were from the USA. I buy something from the Highlands and it gets here even quicker. And they are class products. I can't thank you enough - I'll tip you next time.

A more than happy reader of the BEST BEST web site on the planet (I should know I've read most of them). Mary Wilson, USA.

Dear Highlander,

ONE WORD!

Fantastabloodyfabbydabbyyabadabadooooo... Sorry but I can't think of any other words that describe how pleased I am to have finally found something WORTH reading on the Internet. You should have every award that there is.

Don't ever stop this site.

Dear Highlander,

I would like you to know that I have just installed a new phone line into my house just so that I can spend more time on line in your magazine. Who are you people? I want to shake your hand.

Dear Highlander,

I have been using the internet for my email and my business for over two years now. I looked at the web quite a lot in that time and never took it seriously. I have NO interest in Scotland what so ever. Or at least I thought that until I found your site when I tried to get news on Dunblane. I have been a regular since that time and can now say that I have a GREAT interest in the Highlands of Scotland.

Thank you or educating my mind and forcing some humble pie down my throat regarding my own heritage - I am ashamed.
Sincerely yours, Dr Blair. London England

Dear Highlander,

Wow!! From this side the water(USA), I must ask: Was Compton Muir-Macleod born with the ability to make sense of all this like he in fact did, or, is this something one must learn over time?? I thought it was great & am glad I found Highlander Mag site where I could be introduced to such fine humor & observation.

Dear Highlander,

I have visited most of Scotland's on line publications (newspaper editions). I would like to tell you that from my point of view they can't hold a candle to the variety of content that Highlander Web gives to us. I'm not interested in if "Jimmy won the football" or if "Some guy wins the lottery". News is for newspapers. I come on line to be blown away and entertained. Finally I found someone who can keep my interest on a weekly basis.

Please try and release a printed version, or a CDROM, or a video, etc etc.

I am a Scot living in China and find it very hard to get quality information about Scotland. Thank you, I'm home again.

Dear Highlander,

Just a quick note to congratulate you on your continuing improvement of what started out as a fantastic site! I especialy liked the "What's New" feature, and managed to follow links from it to view William Wallace's sword. I am sure my husband will enjoy viewing that page as well, as he has an interest in metalworking. I certainly enjoy "seeing" a glimpse of Scotland via your magazine, for until the quarantine is lifted I will be unable to visit.

My six Scottish Terriers would be furious with me if I left them in another's care for that extended a period of time ;-). Be assured that I will keep your main address in my bookmarked list as long as I have a computer, and will continue to read your magazine, even if and when I get to visit your country in person!

Best Wishes for continued success from Camille Partridge.

Dear Highlander,

Just visited your web site and the Dunblane memorial. As the Web shrinks the world as we know it, it's a pleasure to find avenues of expression as sensitive as this. Thanks for providing this to us 'Netizens' who care what transpires beyond our geopolitical borders.

Your other news, too, was very interesting. Perhaps McDonalds will put a franchise on one of the new harbors and sell "McNessy" burgers.... probably a large fish sandwich with the fish hidden>>>>>>

Best wishes,

Dear Highlander,

Your www pages looks very well, especially your graphics backgrounds.

I decided to write you after 3 hours of browsing on your pages. I love Highlands! I have spent 6 months (three summer holidays) of my life near by Muir of Ord, where I have very good friends. And your pages reminded me beautiful days in Scotland, among others for example 5. 8. 95 - Strathpeffer Highland Gathering or saturdays pipe band playings in Strathpeffer at 20.30 , etc...

So let your work continue well!

Hi to all the HIGHLANDER fans..new and old timers!,

I wanted to write, to tell you and your readers of your wonderful magazine AGAIN. (I have written from my home PC AuGur@ix.netcom.com) I have received feedback from others interested in my "quest" for Scottish lore, history, mythology, and possibly my own Scot roots. I have made several new cyber pen pals as a result of my last posting. I absolutely love the new format, and the history section....and have printed copies to read to my children. Please continue to keep up the wonderful work, and share the passionate, brutal, and beautiful history of the land, it's people, and it's legacy. My heart and soul grieves for the unfortunate children at Dunblane....I can only hope that they are in a better state now. PEACE.

Dear Highlander,

My name is John Stoddart, I am of Scottish descent, and I was wondering if you have any Celtic symbols or rune pictures that you could Email me. I am wanting to get a tattoo of some of the symbols of my ancestors. I live in Montana, USA. I am trying to save up enough money to move to Scotland, as I have visited and there is some GORGEOUS landscape there. I am trying to trace my family ancestry back to Scotland. My grandmother says that one of my great-grandparents belonged to the Clan Ramsay. I have had one hard time getting anywhere in my searches though. I also wanted to see what your magazine was all about. It sounds interesting to me, and I would like more info on it, if you can send me some.

Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
John Stoddart.

Dear Highlander,

I'm very much enjoying your magazine, which I discovered the week after the Dunblane shootings on AOL. Your pictures and text provided much solace here; even in New York City, among people who don't know Scotland there was shock and sadness. I have been to Scotland four times for holiday since 1986 and I was badly troubled by the killings. Anyway, best wishes and please keep up your great service.

Sincerely,
Philip Turner

Dear Highlander,

Enjoyed my visit to your home page. The Scot's hold a place of great honor in history, both in Europe and the USA. Men of courage, conviction and character are admired everywhere. Braveheart reminded us of your heretage.

Dear Highlander,

Tha mo chas air ceann mo naimhdean. I hear that means my foot is on the head of my enemies. This is from the great Dr. Neil MacNeill of CutterGap Tenn. 1912. He is one of my favorite Scotsmen. I love Scotland even though I am not of a Scottish background. But, I am German and I heard that the German and the Scottish are like brothers.

I would love to visit Scotland some day, but I have to finish school first. (I'm only 15.) I am kind of in Scotland, since I live in the Adirondacks of New York State, USA and I heard that Scotland and New York share mountains. I also live in Scottish settled Perthshire, but they don't have a post office.

I read books and search this wonderful homepage for anything wonderful about Scotland. I am also looking for a Scottish penpal for Email or good old-fasioned letters. If you can't tell by my name, I am female. I don't tolerate any type of bad language or sex, so don't bother if your that much of a jerk. I am a Christian, so nothing harsh. My Email address is framus19@klink.net If you want my home address, Email me first. I don't want anyone stalking me or hunting me down.

Kateri, New York State.

To all Highlanders - Lads & Lassies:

I am taking a writing class and could use some help. The hero of my story is (what else) a Scotsman (from 1700's). There are 2 things that I can't find in "book research".

1. What would a Scotsman say when he is mad, irritated, frustrated...I'm looking for a printable expression that is equivilent to "Oh crap!", "Nuts" (but stronger), "Son of a Gun". This is a tough one cause I have to avoid strong expletives. The perfect one is an old Ukranian saying that translates to "a pumpkin for your mother", but I can't imagine a Scotsman using that one. Would love to hear your favorite expressions.

2. What are the Highland versions of "honey pie", "sugar", "sweetie". You know, those little pet names you would use for your lady love on a cold winters night all snuggled... well you get the idea.
Ladies, what does your lover whisper when no one else can hear.
Remember, no one will ever know you told me and I'm half a world away in California and very discreet.

If there are Gaelic versions (and that would make my day) please provide a translation.

I feel that Highlander Web Magazine is easily the best Web page I have visited in Scotland. The only thing that I can think of that could be added to it is travel information. I can't remember if I saw any or not. I have always been very interested in Scotland and will be traveling there soon. A lot of the travel information that I have found on other pages has been very little. Something along the lines of clicking on a map of Scotland and it giving me some general information on a LARGE area.

All in all the 'Highlander' was a great page. Certainly one of the most fun. When do expect to have the Audio area ready?

LOTS OF AUDIO IN THE MUSIC PAGES NOW!!

Dear Highlaner Web,

I'm looking for someone to tell me about things that the average tourist wouldn't know about. My wife and I are coming to Scotland in August and plan on spending three days at the Borland Farmhouse, From there we're traveling to Invercreran for four days. My heritage is Scot (MacLeod) and my wifes' is Norwegian. I would enjoy hearing from someone ,especially a piper from one of these areas.

For several months I have had recurring dreams of another life, in another time, which I believe to be Scotland. In it, I stand around a (?)"gravesite" or barrow with others, who speak in a foreign tongue, which although I cannot speak or understand in real time, I am fluent with in the dream. I believe it is Scotland (?)intuition(?) and it is gaelic that is spoken. I am not a loon...am generally very "rationally" based. In any case, I have been DEVOURING anything and everything that I can find concerning Scottish history, mythology, and culture.

THIS Web site is fantastic!!

IF there are others out there who don't believe me to be insane, or have had similar "pulls" I would love to hear from you. This is a more spiritual (NOT RELIGIOUS) feeling than anything that I have ever felt. I have Scottish/Irish genealogy, but am unsure of how far back or who. If you feel like chatting, about this or anything Scottish, would love to hear from you.

Greetings from the highland prairies of south-central Oklahoma, just a wee bit south of the Arbuckle mountains which are so very much like those I discovered while traveling in the Highlands in 1986. God bless your new publication on the Internet! a very muchly needed component for those Scots-Americans whose hearts are forever in the highlands.

Looking forward with eager anticipation to your forthcoming articles with the fierceness of a wee Scot.

Hello!
I want to congratulate you for this interesting magazine. It quenches my thirst for everything that is Scottish. At the age of fifteen I read a novel about Scotland and was fascinated ever since. Okay it was a second class love novel, but it has done it's work.
This year I persuaded my 'almost husband' to visit Scotland by car, for about six weeks in the summer holidays. This was not really hard work, because he is a passionate flyfisher, one of the kind "from sunrise till sunset", which is sometimes not very thrilling for me.
I have read a lot about Scotland and chose a few sites that I dont want to miss, but I would be very pleased if anyone could give me some special hints about flyfishing (trout), diving, or whatever. We are mostly interested in nature and people, because we study geography and biology.

So any information about Scotland is welcome.
If you want to write us, here is the address: schnatti@t0.or.at
