The illustrations, which have been selected to cover a wide range of subjects, span nearly one hundred years of the history of Wick, from the 1860s to the 1950s.
They were taken by three generations of the Johnston family, Alexander, senior, his son William, and his grandson, Alexander.
Between them they took nearly 100,000 photographs and in the process created both a unique record of Wick's history and some of the masterpieces of Scottish photography.
It is especially appropriate that this work has been produced by another great Wick institution, the "John O'Groats Journal," as it has been recording the passing scene for over 150 years.
This combination of foresight, experience and above all commitment to Wick's heritage and traditions has produced the volume before you now.
