lochmap.gif - 78.2 K The Caledonian Canal was built by the famous Scottish engineer, Thomas Telford, and stands as a tribute to his brilliance and a lasting memorial to the men who built it. It runs the length of the Great Glen, or Glen Mhor, linking Lochs Dochfour, Ness, Oich and Lochy, passing many places of historical interest or scenic grandeur en route.

Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, at the edge of the Moray Firth, is at one end of our cruise. We pass the brooding and magnificent ruins of Urquhart Castle which watch over Loch Ness; we stay a night at Fort Augustus where guests are welcomed to the abbey, once a boy's school but now a monastic visitor centre. At the other end of the Glen is Fort William at the head of Loch Linnhe from where the fishing boats make their way down the Loch through the sound of Mull to the North Atlantic fishing grounds.

So much history, so much natural beauty and wildlife, and so many stories and legends - a cruise on SPIRIT OF LOCH NESS offers an opportunity to experience just a little of the magic that is Scotland - more than enough to whet the appetite for a return visit.
