No, it's not another story about the strange mysterious animals
occasionally seen in the Highlands. This is about a television drama
currently being filmed here starring uninhibited Swedish actress
Amanda Ooms who gives a whole new - and very interesting - slant on
the old werewolf legend. The three-part Carlton TV production is based on the novel "Wilderness", by Dennis Danvers, and is adapted for the screen by the Jane Austen "Pride and Prejudice" film screenwriter Andrew Davis. Work on the drama, which changes the novel's Los Angeles and Canadian backwoods setting for London and the Scottish Highlands, began on June 3, with beautiful Glen Affric providing a perfect setting.
In fact the Highland locations were identified by forestry owner and fisheries manager Joe Gibbs, who lives some 20 miles away near Kiltarlity. For the past two years, he's also doubled as a freelance location manager, working on a number of projects including the recent film "Loch Ness".
He says all the film companies who've come up to the Highlands have said how helpful and flexible everybody was up here.
"It's a major selling point for the Highlands as a film location - apart from the obvious ones like scenery," he added.
Apart from low levels of background noise - always a bonus when shooting scenes outdoors - there's also another plus, too. Although the tourist season is now in full swing, Highland roads when compared to other parts of Britain are still relatively uncluttered. That means faster access by the production crew and consequent savings in time and money.
The antics of wolf-woman Amanda Ooms - and the spectacular Highland scenery - can be seen in the autumn when the drama is due for transmission.
